I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!

I completed this painting a while ago. As with many of my work, this was an emotional journey.
I got permission to use the photo I used as inspiration for this work from an American NGO, Water for Life. Seeing this photo touched me in so many ways. Here was a beautiful young girl, growing up in a secluded community in absolute poverty. Until Water for Life assisted them and improved their lives, they had to walk far to access water, which was mostly not potable. Such a basic need. We don’t often think of it, but for this community it was a daily struggle.
Despite her circumstances, this girl shines like a princess – walking daintily with her bare feet on the forest floor, holding her still-too-big and have-seen-better-days hand-me-down in her tiny hand. In the other, she holds the yellow can of life-giving water needed for her household. A little princess, misplaced in another world.
